The name evolved from the discovery of my late mum’s button box. Some of the buttons were from my grandmother’s collection. A secret treasure.
Many people have shared their own memories of button boxes, which were a source of joy and entertainment as children. Happy days!
After many years working in both the private and public sectors, including running my own PR and Marketing business, so much changed when my mum became ill; my priorities changed. I took a step back, and an opportunity presented itself to turn a hobby into a business of a different kind.
Supportive friends and family started to buy my bags. When I began receiving orders for bespoke items and repeat orders, this provided me with even greater motivation to grow the business.
Buttonbury has allowed me to tap into a creative side which had remained unexplored. I've never looked back.
Each bag is handmade and unique. They can be quirky, retro or classic. I enjoy working with florals, stripes and tartans. I only make two or three bags from the same material and even they vary in design, lining and trimmings, including a button (or two) somewhere on or in the bag!
I love using vintage and new fabrics together. A great deal of time and consideration is given to finding the perfect combination. It’s wonderful when ladies (and gents) pick up a bag and open it to reveal another hidden surprise – the lining. Deciding on buttons takes even longer – it has to be ‘the’ one!
My bags have found their way as far as Australia, New Zealand, Greece, Italy,Thailand, South Africa and Venezuela. I offer a bespoke service if you want a bag for a special occasion or for a unique gift.
